New Weight Regulations for Exports from UK

New Weight Regulations for Exports from UK

New international regulations are being implemented which have a huge effect on ALL exporters from the UK from 1st July 2016.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) have released their updated Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) regulations which state that every container due for export at sea to have a Verified Gross Mass (VGM) which has been given to the Shipping Lines and port terminals prior to loading on a vessel.

The regulations state that the duty is on the SHIPPER to supply the VGM regardless of who has packed the container. Shipping Lines will be prohibited from allowing any container to sail without the VGM.

Please read the SOLAS ‘Q&A’ information and ensure that you are familiar with what is needed to meet these new regulations.

We will update you with any information as we receive it.
