What is happening at both ports?

Both ports have made formal announcements through their websites detailing the planned strike actions and communications between the ports and Unite Union members. Further information can be found on their respective websites.  Please see  Peel Ports Group and Port of Felixstowe.

How will I know if my cargo is impacted?

Our team will be in contact with customers who are likely to be impacted by the potential strikes, detailing any required adjustments for your cargo.

For line haulage customers, please be assured we are mobilising our landside fleet to support service adjustments and will keep customers informed about any amendments to cargo collection, delivery and restitutions.

Can I still book line haulage with MSC during the strike period?

We remain open for bookings and encourage customers to book early where possible. We will continue to utilise the full breadth of our national road, rail and port network to find the best solution for your cargo during this period.

What will the impact be for import merchant haulage bookings?

For merchant haulage release requests, please continue to contact us in the normal way and a member of our team will be on hand to support with any questions.

What should I do if I currently have import cargo on quay at either port?

To ensure you have access to your cargo during the strike period, and the days before and just after, we recommend that your cargo is moved off quay as early as possible.

If you have not yet booked your haulage requirements or you require an intermodal solution, please contact us by phone on 01473 277777 or contact our short-sea or deep-sea import booking teams as appropriate:

Deep sea: GB014-impdeepsea.bookings@msc.com
Short sea: GB014-impshortsea.bookings@msc.com

Please be reminded that if you have cargo due to arrive at either port prior to the strike action, we recommend that you provide all customs paperwork at the earliest opportunity.

Where should I restitute my empty containers during the strike period?

You should continue to request restitution via the normal channels (see the MSC Intermodal platform) and all available options will be listed for you, including MSC’s own Liverpool and Felixstowe based depots, subject to space.

Is there any impact on export cargo bookings?

Please continue to book exports as normal, should there be any changes to your cargo arrangements our team will be in touch. We will utilise our range of regional ports and intermodal network to find the best solution for your cargo.

Will quay rent and demurrage still be charged?

We do not currently have plans to mitigate charges that occur as a result of strike action that are beyond our control. However, we will continue our discussions with both the Port of Liverpool and Port of Felixstowe, and review this as the situation evolves.

We appreciate your patience and understanding and remain available for any questions you may have.
