Maersk Line / Safmarine / Sealand Weight Discrepancy Fee – All Trades
Maersk Line, Safmarine and Sealand have announced an additional charge for containers where there is a difference in the indicated weight on the shipping instructions and the actual VGM weight. This is their way of finding out the actual weight of the container to ensure safe loading of their vessels.
Effective from 15th June 2020, Maersk, Safmarine and Sealand will verify and compare the declared weight to ensure the VGM is correct.
The Lines’ will perform three validations:
1. Discrepancy between VGM and weight in shipping instruction, +/- 500 kgs or +5% tolerance
2. Declared VGM exceeds allowable payload as per CSC Plate (excluding SOC).
3. Declared VGM is less than Tare Weight of the container.
Any failures in these validations will result in a Weight Discrepancy Fee of GBP 100 per container in UK and EUR 100 per container in Ireland.
We encourage you to declare the correct weight via your preferred channels. Freight Agency Ltd will have no choice but to pass on these extra charges in the event of being notified of a discrepancy.
